Singaporean Food!

I can spend a whole month at Singapore Airport. I don’t have to tell you more about Singapore. Being Indian, I love free things, Especially at the Airport and when it comes to Changi Aiport, I think they know how to offer the best service with minimum cost.

So, I met Dandy in Bangkok back in 2016 and he invited me for Christmas in Singapore. Although I needed a visa and return entry pass of Bangkok, I did it. Trouble for him that I planned to stay for a whole of 2 weeks.

Why Singapore? FOOD, FOOD, and FOOD.

There is a lot of things to do in Singapore; from watching a free laser show in downtown to trekking in Bukit Timah Nature Reserve. But it is the food that makes Singapore multicultural.

Let’s start with Food that you must try while in Singapore:

  • Singaporean style: Hainanese chicken rice, Chai tow kway (Fried Carrot Cake), Hokkien-style fried noodles (fried yellow seafood noodles), Bak Chor Mee (Minced Pork Noodle) and Laksa (Spicy Coconut broth with vermicelli noodles), and Ya Kun Kaya toast (Kaya toast with a coconut jam).
  • Indian food: Roti prata (an Indian pancake), Appam (pancake with a special red sugar), rojak (Indian fruit or fried dough salad) and tulang merah (Lamb bone marrow with a spicy and sweet sauce).
  • Malay food: Mi rebus, Nasi lemak (coconut rice), Mee siam, Satay and Mie goreng.
  • For desserts: Ais kacang (basically shaved ice with flavored syrups), Cendol, Tau Suan (Mung Beans Dessert).
  • Drinks: Soursop, Sugarcane juice, Bandung (rose syrup with milk), milo and avocado milkshake with gula melaka (Palm Sugar) or chocolate syrup.
  • Seafood: Chilli crab, Black pepper crab, Salted Duck Egg Crab, Sambal stingray, Sambal Lala (Clam Sambal), Steamed Gong Gong (Conch); and Belacan Yam Leaf (Sweet Potato Leaf).

Some of the photos of food that I ate while my trip:

Every Hawker Square in Singapore has its own fans. However, you must try some plazas and food courts in various malls.
